Post-merger integration and strategy development

The parent company merged three of its operating companies to form an international private bank. The Group’s management asked the merged entity’s executive committee to set a direction for the organisation that would support its aim of extending its reach internationally.

The challenge was to create a sense of purpose and unify the different organisations under a common culture and vision.

A small strategic committee of senior managers was formed to outline the future direction of the business and to map out a winning culture.

It was decided that eighty key people would participate in an offsite strategic meeting in Switzerland to agree the vision and purpose and define the culture attributes required to drive the business forward.

The programme was successful in bringing people together, building human bonds and defining a common purpose and culture that people could espouse enthusiastically. Then the business leaders where able to develop a strategic plan to make the vision a reality.
